Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio), CIA's best man in the field, believes that human life and safety are more valuable than the intelligence they gather. In his operations that take him all around the world, Ferris relies heavily on the experienced CIA agent Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) at the other end of a secure line.
Hoffman, strategizing from his suburban laptop, is after a terrorist leader who has managed to evade the world's most complex intelligence network and carry out a series of bombing attacks. Ferris must enter this murky world in order to lure out the terrorist. However, as Ferris gets closer to his target, he discovers that trust is both dangerous and the only thing that can save his life.
