Louise (Susan Sarandon), an Arkansas waitress, is tired of her boyfriend and convinces her friend Thelma (Geena Davis), who has a dull life with her neglectful and sexist husband, to join her on a weekend car trip filled with freedom.
As their first stop, they relax and dance at a bar, enjoying a fun evening with local men. However, when a man attempts to rape Thelma in the parking lot, Louise intervenes and ends up killing him. Paranoia sets in as they believe the police will never believe their story, so the women decide to flee, becoming fugitives overnight. Thelma, deeply affected by recent events, seeks solace in a one-night stand with a young cowboy named J.D (Brad Pitt), further complicating matters.
Directed by Ridley Scott, this iconic feminist road film has already secured its place among the best films of the 1990s. Alongside "Blade Runner" and "Alien," "Thelma & Louise" is regarded as one of the director's finest works, thanks to its unique screenplay and flawless cinematography.
The film received six Academy Award nominations and ultimately won the Best Original Screenplay award for writer Callie Khouri.
