Gabriel Sawyer (Lou Taylor Pucci), a young man, develops a tumor in his brain and the only solution is surgery. However, the tumor causes serious damage to Gabriel's memory. He loses the ability to create new memories, making his past, present, and future indistinguishable. Gabriel's father, Henry (J.K. Simmons), believes that he can communicate with his son through music and takes him to music therapist Dr. Dianne Daly (Julia Ormond). The story revolves around their attempt to connect with Gabriel through the power of music.
