Amanda Woods, who owns an advertising company that produces film trailers, lives in Southern California. Iris Simpkins, who writes for the popular matchmaking column in the Daily Telegraph newspaper in London, lives in a charming countryside cottage in England.
Even though Iris and Amanda live 6,000 miles apart, they are emotionally in the same place. Just before Christmas, both of them decide to take a break from their boyfriends for a while. In other words, they are not in the mood to sing nostalgic Christmas songs.
