Edward Cole (JACK NICHOLSON) is the owner of a millionaire company, while Carter Chambers (MORGAN FREEMAN) is a working-class car mechanic. Their worlds are completely different, but their paths cross when they share a hospital room and discover they have two things in common: the desire to spend the rest of their lives doing everything they've always wanted to do before "kicking the bucket," and the need to make peace with themselves, of which they are unaware.
